ETL for Accumulating Snapshot

Post  spaul on Tue Aug 24, 2010 4:12 pm

I'm looking for a book, sql code, web links, anything to get me started on creating the ETL for an Accumulating Snapshot fact table. I've not yet been able to attend the Kimball ETL class (but the Dimensional Modeling class was great!).

Does anyone know if the Kimball ETL book or class offers some in-depth help with the Accumulating Snapshot fact tables or is the focus on transaction-based fact tables?

There is a brief discussion in Kimball’s “The Data Warehouse ETL Toolkit” (p222). Basically your ETL will periodically revisit the records and update their various date keys and other dimension keys and measures relevant to the milestones at the point of snapshot until the lifecycle reaches the end for the records.
