Purpose of Hierarchies in a Dimension Empty Purpose of Hierarchies in a Dimension

Hi Guys,

What is the purpose of setting up hierarchies in a dimension. Is the primary reason to aggregate data, drill down/up, you start with country, drill down to state, then drill down to city and then you see the actual customer.

Are there any other reasons. Thank You!

That's it. A side effect is easier querying which is also a stated goal of dimensional modeling.
