DWH Layers Empty DWH Layers

Post  Guest Sun Apr 27, 2014 1:18 pm

I am confused of different layers in DWH. It would be helpful if anyone explains the different layers in DWH (Staging/Foundation/Presentation).

Thanks in advance.

DWH Layers Empty Re: DWH Layers

My opinion:
Staging: the area where you import your source data to and then transform it into the format you will load into your dimensional model i.e. the 'T' part of ETL

Foundation: not a term I use myself but I presume this means the actual dimensional model itself

Presentation: the area that your report writers are exposed to. This could be a set of DB views over the Foundation layer or the metadata layer in your BI tool (OBIEE, Bus Objects, SSRS, etc).

Hope this helps
