Column Property Enforcement Empty Column Property Enforcement

Post  davidp Wed Apr 23, 2014 8:21 am

I have a question on one of the screens/ data quality checks listed under the "Column Property Enforcement" category in the book ("The ETL Data Warehouse Toolkit" Chapter 4, Part 3, page 134)
I understood 6 of the 7 screens listed, but the following one is not clear to me:

"Hits against a list of known wrong values where list of acceptable values is too long"

An example or a clear explanation would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
David

My guess is the set of valid values is too great to list. Instead, here are some commonly used invalid values.

For example, looking for obscene words or bogus addresses. The list of all permissible words is very long, whereas the list of impermissible words is a lot shorter.
