Textual Fact - Junk Dimension
Is there ever a case where you leave textual facts in place in the fact instead of a junk dimension? Right now I am looking at breaking them out into a junk dimension but a couple things have me questioning if that is correct. First is that the textual facts are populated on the details heavily so probably 95% of the time, and usually no more than 30-50 bytes. The second is most of our reports dump out detail along with the aggregations. If I am already retrieving all of the data anyway, does creating a fact with a junk dimension that would be roughly the same size as the fact really make sense?

I would consider leaving the column in the fact table under those circumstances.
