Article on the "flaws of the classic dw architecture"

Post  Andrea Vincenzi on Sat Aug 15, 2009 5:18 am

I hope this is not off topic, since it talks about architectures instead of a specific data modeling problem.
A couple of months ago I read an article by Rick van der Lans by the title "The Flaws of the Classic Data Warehouse Architecture": http://www.b-eye-network.com/view/9752 and I posted a comment saying, among other things, that I thought it very strange that in a discussion about DW architectures he did not even mention Kimball and the Dimensional Bus architecture.

Yesterday finally he replied and I commented on his reply. This discussion can be seen here: http://www.b-eye-network.com/channels/5087/view/10834

Maybe other readers of this forum have something to say about it. The article by Rick is worth reading anyway, even if i think that it's a very theoretical approach with very little practical use.

I agree, a worthwhile read with little practical approach in my environment. It's hard to fathom SOA success in the DW with the limited success for just applications.
